File under life is hard

Well, we have moved house again. Something that will come as absolutely no surprise to anyone who has known me more than 5 minutes. This one is definitely the best yet - you can catch the odd glimpse of it here at my companion photo blog which I do actually post to quite regularly. We got broadband on today - which actually goes at the advertised 8Mbs and does not seem to have the ridiculous amount of contention that I had at the old place - it was virtually unusable on a Saturday. I am sitting writing this in my garden with bats swooping round the garden. Life is indeed hard.

I am reading lots of M John Harrison - possibly the finest writer of the English language alive today. If you haven't read anything by him go and do so now. He writes all sorts of things from Scfi to fantasy to just stuff about people - all of it utterly brilliant. Sadly not listening to anything at all because everything is in pieces but eagerly awaiting the new Angels of Light album. Drinking - beer. Watching - very little actually. I seem to have inadvertently weaned myself off television - I did however see the stunning 'The Prestige' recently - directly after reading the book. The book and the film are two aspects of the same story. I loved the book but the film is better in my opinion. It strips the story down to the essentials, tightens up a few things and is beautifully paced and brilliantly edited. It was directed by the same guy who did Memento which should give you a few clues as to it's nature. It was (quite rightly) in Interzones top 10 films of the last 25 years list.
