Liquid hearts in the darkness
Floating floating
In the deep deep black
Starlight edges
In the clouds of dust
Rocks spinning in the whirling light
She opens her heart
And takes it all in
Sensors flickering
Glitching in the cold vacuum
Memory back on line
Histories come flooding back
A tiny dish swings round to focus
On a single spot of light
So many years from home
So many years that light stretches across
Followed by the blips
The ones and noughts
Spinning in the darkness
So cold
Alone
Digital hearts in the blackness
Exploring deeper and deeper
Into the emptiness of space
Very tired today - a mixture of not being able to sleep followed by a small boy waking up very early - oh well.
A couple of media raves - first of all Autechre been well into their stuff again of late - the new DVD video single is stunning. Gantz_graf is a mind blowing digital 3d animation all glitch and mechanical strangeness with a sound track that sees Autechre pushing further into the territories first explored on the astonishing confield. There are a number of bands like Autechre, Coil , Einstürzende Neubauten, :Zoviet*France: (not an exhaustive list) that occupy a really special place in music and more than make up for the bland rubbish the major labels flog.
The other excellent thing is American Beauty (yes I know everyone else has long since seen it) - what a superb film. One of those films that really "get" the point and again restore your faith in the ability of people to portray complex and interesting messages.
The thing that is really winding me up at the moment is the necessity of simplifying everything to a "soundbite" which of course filters out all but the simplist and/or most reactionary of things from the public conciousness.
Be sure to check out Terra Firma my friend Ricks new production company as well. Oh and the poem is from a short story I am working on.
