There's a lot of it about

Its a bit hard to complain about being ill when your 21 month old son who is also ill seems unfazed by the whole thing (apart from small snot explosions once in a while). I am however - ILL. Lemsip max direct however is doing a wondrous job - despite the Blackcurrent flavour being utterly revolting.

Many things have been proceeding well a number of my on going projects are heading in a positive direction. In particular Abbys web site is well underway. I've been learning style sheets as threatened and am beginning to feel comfortable with them. I've been using them for work related things at the moment but expect to see a growth in content here. Talking of here I am considering moving server. This place seem a lot better than my current host. This won't really effect much unless you get your email served via junklight in which case your account settings will change (but not the email address or anything important). It won't be happening until December at the earliest anyway because one of my friends who is traveling around the world is using the email and would probably find it a nuisance if the service suddenly changed without warning.

The other thing I have been learning is LaTeX. LaTeX is a typesetting language and it produces superb results. Whereas WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) applications try to work out the layout on the fly which necessarily produces compromise LaTeX lays out the whole document in one fell swoop. Employing a whole body of captured information about what makes a good layout. The other benefit is that it separates layout from content. Writing a LaTeX document is similar to writing a HTML page using style sheets - you generate content, markup its structure (chapters, sections, index etc.) and then tell LaTeX what styles to use. As with HTML is not quite as cut and dried as that but not far off. It is also easy to computer generate. The small web application I have been writing to manage some of the specification at work is now able to produce superb PDF reports on the fly. I've been typesetting my 2 poetry collections (as well as doing some more work on the long promised third one). So hopefully you will see 2nd editions of them both soon.

I've just finished the 5th Harry Potter book. As ever it was hard to put down and a jolly good story. Harry Potter is NOT great literature but
they are well written and thoroughly enjoyable.
