All Change again....

Well it is all change time again. This time hopefully for the dramatically better. The excursion down south (lasting 2 years) has been a mixed affair. Some of the things I hope would come from it have happend - see below. My dislike of the south of England has been reaffirmed and financially it has been a catastrophe since I worked at the Library for so long on less money than I needed. Worse than that - having little spare money or time I have let a lot of friendships lapse which is not good.

However - All that is about to change because we are now moving back up North. Not quite to Scotland - instead we are aiming for Cumbria. Even better than that I will be working from home so no commuting and plenty of time for family.I am also hoping to try and reestablish some friendships again - if I haven't burned my bridges.

The thing that is making all this possible is web archiving - so all that time at the library is being put to good use. Myself and one or two others have set up a web archiving company (http://www.hanzoweb.com and http://www.hanzoarchives.com) and I am also doing some other free lance web archiving work. It became apparent that web archiving was not going to thrive in the slow moving world of the public institutions and that it needed to be done in another way. Hanzoweb is all a bit geeky at the moment but we have some exciting developments in the pipeline to make everyones web experience richer.

On a personal front I have had very little time for anything other than work or family - I am hoping that is about to change. I have been (very slowly) working on some new poems and I have been tentatively making music again. I am hoping to relaunch Junklight later in the year with lots of new content, new design and all my old material made available as well. I have found most of the master copies of my old music as well so it will all be remastered and much higher quality.

There is nothing to look at in Letchworth so I have been looking at the sky

One good thing about commuting - This week I have read Rainbows End by Vernor Vinge - best SciFi book I have read in a long time (and I have read a lot of good stuff lately) and also The Accidental by Ali Smith which is also very very good indeed.

Hey Mark,

Sorry to hear the London-thing didn't work out as well as hoped for. Glad to hear the family is well and you're moving North again.

All the best of luck with geeky Hanzo'

Cheers,
Ij.

Nah - all for the best. London was only to move my career on and fingers crossed it has managed that. Best of all we might even get to catch up for a pint soon...
