Soup

A few new bits and pieces. A. and I went upto Oban yesterday to meet my parents. Had a great day - a good walk about and it was lovely spending the day with my mum and dad. I've got some pictures which will probably appear on the pictures page soon.

Today I changed my webcam software to webcam32 - the old one (which came with the camera) was crashing all the time and was very clunky. First impressions are that webcam32 is very good - lots of features which I have yet to explore. Its also updating a lot faster - 10 seconds at the moment.

I've really been getting back into cooking again recently. Tonight I made a noodle and mushroom soup which I was pleased with and seemed to go down well. Heres the recipe (bear in mind I make things up as I go along and very rarely make the same thing twice):

Ingredients: Couple of cloves of garlic, Bit of root ginger (about the size of a 2p), some spring onion (I had about four), some soy sauce, some sweet chilli sauce, about a handful and a half of Shitake (sp?) and oyster mushrooms, some water and some thin chinese noodles and two vegetable stock cubes.

Boil a kettle of water

Set a pan of water boiling

Heat a bit of decent oil in a saucepan

Chop the garlic and ginger finely, chop up the spring onions a bit less finely. Pop the garlic and

ginger into the hot oil and then after a minute shove in the onions - let them fry a bit.

Chop the mushrooms into fairly big pieces.

After a short while put the mushrooms in to fry with everything else. The trick here is to

fry them until they are soft but not fried to pieces.

Put the boiling water (from the kettle) into a jug with the

stock cubes to make a vegetable stock - if you had the time you

could make a real stock but the stock cubes aren't bad.

When the 'shrooms are ready put about a tablespoon of soy sauce and

a blob of sweet chilli sauce into onions and 'shrooms

Straight afterwards add the stock and some more (boiling) water - I reckon

I ended up with about three pints of water but you never know

Put the noodles in the pan of boiling water and cook them.

Drain them and shove them in the rest of the stuff.

Cook for a minute or two and then serve in two noodle bowls -

chopsticks would be best but I forgot to buy them.

There you go - mushroom and noodle soup

Firewall

Hmm - very busy at the moment but just wanted to note that we are having a few firewall problems at the moment so webcam coverage might be a bit patchy for a while. The problems should be solved today however.
