Taikonauts are go

A new track:

Taikonaut (mp3 , 5,802K , 4:57)

Not your usual ambience this one but instead an adventure in the realms of IDM. I came up with the drum track whilst testing a new drum machine I am building in PD - it is designed to do polyrhythms and to play sequences of different lengths against each other. The voice is supplied by the BBC and the lead sound is made using granular synthesis.

The Grey Men

Monday afternoon and I'm in the middle of a report that I am bored of writing and so here is a log entry....

We went down to Leeds last weekend to get the cats back. Because we where with Milo we stayed in a hotel. Leeds has really picked up since I used to live there - there is a real buzz about the place - loads of new development as well. In the evening Em and B. came back to the hotel to have a drink and we spent a very surreal couple of hours in a room which was like an old peoples home waiting room having a drink.

This weekend I managed to get a good deal of my studio and books unpacked - its great to see my books again - they haven't been out of their boxes for about a year and half. The new house has lots of shelving so they are not even living in big heaps like they used to do. The studio is all set up as well so I can start proper work on my next planned release. I already have a cd full of samples that I have been working on as source material.

A poem:

The Grey Men

This comes from a number of places but was inspired by a visit to Peebles in the autumn of last year - the drive over the moorland to get their in the dark and high winds was quite spooky. The grey men themselves where inspired by a "Secrets of the Dead" type program I saw last year.

The middle of April

Well - another year older (my birthday having been and gone).

Haven't really been upto much - moved to XP on my laptop which is pretty good once you turn all of the "consumer" nonsense off. My laptop is working a lot better now and even has some free space on it.

Last night whilst watching the badly named "World Music Awards" briefly I was amused to hear someone - Alicia Keys I think - thank in the same breath God and her record label. Which if you think about it is really misunderstanding at least one of those entities - the christian god is not well known for being a raging capitalist and the record companies aren't really known for their compassion, understanding and contributions to world peace (we will ignore the christian church in all of this). Far from being "world music" awards they where actually awards for music sold in the world if you are wondering what Alica Keys was doing winning things.

Whilst we are on the subject of God - and keeping neatly way from the quesiton of his existence. I found this interesting list of bible atrocities. God had a real personality change between the old and new testemants.

Whilst its a slow news day I would also like to take this opportunity to plug my friend Rick's Site - check it out and maybe buy some his new work - or even better storytellers which has a junklight track on it.
