Northen Lights

Well, last night I finally saw the Northern Lights. Something I have wanted to see for as long as I can remember. About 11 O’clock I was trying to trick Roo (one of our cats) out of Abby’s room without waking her up so I could shut him downstairs for the night. When I had managed this I looked out of the window and the sky was streaked with this eerie green glow – shifting and twisting. Sadly there is huge amount of light pollution where I live but it was still very beautiful – I watched it for a long time. I can see a plan for going somewhere much further north and a lot darker emerging.

I am still working my way through (and enjoying immensely) Quicksilver. There is a fascinating parallel in reading about the early scientific explorations of the characters – Hooke, Lebnitz, etc. and watching the explorations of my son. He’s at the stage where he can begin to make connections between cause and effect and so is constantly experimenting to see what things do. A couple of weeks ago I was showing him something in the bath whereby you put an upturned cup into the water, let the air out underwater causing lots of entertaining bubbles and then quickly pull the cup out of the water upside down causing an interesting cascade of water and lots of splashes. He found this very funny and over the period of a number of baths has worked out how to do it himself by trial and error. Wonderful

Nothing much

As you can see the redesign is progressing well. Or not as the case may be. The main delay is the fact I want to learn how to do CSS for the redesign so its going to take me a little longer.

Nothing exciting to report at all really. Working hard but everything seems to be under control.

Todays question is - why do children like bouncing so much? I remember enjoying it as a child and Milo has loved (and I mean LOVED) bouncing since he was tiny and yet as an adult I feel no urge to bounce even when I am on my own and no one is looking. Odd.

I've been reading a lot recently - the wonderful Reggie Perrin books by David Nobbs. Lots of Jeff Noon who I'm supprised I didn't discover earlier and my current reading is the superb Quicksilver Its a monsterous text and the characterisation is a little lacking but it throws you into the depths of a time when the world was starting to change into the world as we know it. Its my "train" reading at the moment and I find myself looking forward with anticipation to my sessions with it. Judging by the reviews its one of those books that polarise people so I can't recomend it to everyone but its well worth a look.

Changes are afoot

So I have finally begun to get round to it - the redesign of junklight. I've (bravely) deleted most of the content and I'm working on establishing new stuff. As you can see my weblog has changed - I'm now using MovableType which is very nice indeed. The layout will be shifting about over the comming days as I get to grips with style sheets.
