Two idiots drive a car into an airport. Presumably having seen one to many action movies (in movies of course cars explode magnificently on impact). I wouldn't be surprised to find out they thought of this plan earlier this afternoon.
Despite this - Glasgow airport is closed. Thousands of people are inconvenienced. Government officials are rushing to 'emergency' meetings. More bad laws will be passed restricting our freedoms and increasing paranoia.
But surely you say - we have to save lives? In that case what about the 70 people who died on our roads this week? Or deaths from alcohol or smoking related illnesses, or from under funding in the NHS, etc. All things we could do a lot about given the budget spent on 'anti terrorism'.
Even very low quality terrorism works: two idiots without a plan are headline news, have brought part of the air system to a halt (which as regular air travelers will tell you has knock on effects all over the place) and are actively helping to impact on our laws to restrict all of our freedoms . Terrorism works because the government plays right into the terrorists hands.
It is that time of year again - upgrade time! TV adverts for the n95 - in particular 'it's what the computer has become' suckered me in and so I phone Orange. As it happens Abby has been complaining about her ancient motorola as well - so my intention is to move her to my old n80 and get a shiny new upgrade myself. The helpful chap on the other end of the phone pokes about in my account - "if you sign an 18 month contract you can have two n95's". Blimey. sign sign sign.
So I have a shiny new toy all for free - lovely big screen that makes web browsing almost tolerable, 5m pixel camera. Portable video camera and integration with flickr and Vox. The latter got me back interested in something I had intended to use my flickr account for when I first opened it - just uploading images and stuff from my phone and so behold a new never updated blog in parallel with this one:http://junklight.vox.com/
